Top-bred 9-year-old international eventing mare by Kannan - 1*
Description
It is with a heavy heart that I am offering my 9-year-old mare Haloa Tonick for sale. I have thought long and hard about this decision, but due to a change in my own priorities, I want to give her to a new owner who will get fully to work with her.
Tonick is an honest, high-quality and all-rounder sport horse with fantastic bloodlines and experience in international eventing. She would also do very well in showjumping! Riding her truly at a competitive level requires a lot of daily time and dedicated commitment. I notice that I currently no longer can and want to invest that time. In addition, the financial burden of owning a horse on my own is weighing too heavily on me at the moment. She is therefore absolutely not leaving because she is a difficult or unpleasant horse (on the contrary), but purely because I am making the choice that having my own horse is simply too much for me right now.

Tonick was bred as a high-quality eventer. As a 3-year-old, she was purchased by Merel Blom, with whom she was professionally trained and produced for years. Under Merel, she competed internationally in 1-star (1*) eventing. She also produced a foal while with Merel. Since her purchase in March last year, she has been competed with me at a more recreational level in B/L cross-country, L1 dressage and 1.10m showjumping. During this period, I continued taking lessons from Merel to keep riding her on the same foundation. However, there is enormous potential in her, and she possesses the class, scope, and experience to compete again at a higher level with the right commitment and guidance.
Temperament & Under Saddle
Tonick is an incredibly well-behaved horse with a heart of gold. She is definitely not lazy, but she doesn't give it to you on a silver platter: she requires a consistent rider who keeps riding her properly.
Thanks to the dash of Thoroughbred on her dam's side, she is wonderfully motivated, sharp, and attentive in the arena and in cross-country. The great thing about Tonick, however, is that her switch turns 'off' just as quickly: if you walk or stand still, she relaxes immediately. From a riding perspective, she requires a clear hand and direction, and in handling and basic work, she is honest as gold.
Handling & Behaviour
- In the stable & grooming area: An absolute sweetheart to handle, incredibly loving and easy to care for.
- Pasture/Paddock: Very good going out and coming in; does not pull away or run. Currently kept in a herd with mares (and a gelding as a neighbour), which goes seamlessly.
- In heat: Behaves well during heat; looks a bit more at geldings, but always remains easy to handle.
- Farrier / vet: No problems whatsoever with the farrier or vet.
Health, Maintenance & Inspection
Tonick is a sound horse with no stable vices or medical flaws. Her care and medical maintenance have always been kept up neatly and consistently:
- Vaccinations & Teeth: All vaccinations are neatly up to date. During the period she has been in my possession, she has already been checked/treated twice by the dentist.
- Shoeing: She is currently shod all round. This is not for medical reasons, but purely for sport (fitted with stud holes for cross-country/jumping).
- Inspection: At purchase in February last year, she was fully approved clinically and on X-rays. New (re-)inspections are of course permitted; these costs are at the buyer's expense.
Other & Accessories
- Accessories: Her complete, well-fitting equipment (such as saddles, bridles, rugs, etc.) can be taken over in consultation and at an additional charge.
